Apple Butter (with Sugar Biscuits)

When I was a kid we would frequent Maryland’s own, Friendly Farm. It’s a beloved family style restaurant that sits next to a small duck pond. What I loved most? They served a delicious Apple Butter with a basket of warm Sugar Biscuits.

We have our own delicious Apple Butter recipe and we found an easy way to make those sugar biscuits!

Apple Butter Ingredients 
5 pounds of Golden Delicious Apples (or your choice)
1 cup of apple cider
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of light brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Peel, slice and cube apples.

Add apples and the rest of the ingredients into a large dutch oven. Cover and cook on low heat for 2 hours.

Apple Butter

Using an Immersion Hand Blender – blend apple mixture until it is smooth. Cook on low heat for another 30 minutes.

Apple Butter

Remove Apple Butter and serve at room temperature. Or store Apple Butter in jars and refrigerate for up to 10 days. Spread Apple Butter over toast or Sugar Biscuits!

Sugar Biscuits Ingredients 
1 roll of Pillsbury French Bread
Vegetable Oil
1 cup sugar


Slice french bread dough into 3/4 inch pieces.

Apple Butter with Sugar Biscuits

Pour vegetable oil into medium sauce pan filling no more than 1/3 full. Heat oil over low-medium heat. Drop dough slices into oil in small batches for about less than 1 minute per side or until light golden brown. Remove biscuits and drain on a paper towel.

Toss biscuits in a bowl of sugar.

Serve immediately along with homemade Apple Butter.
